Alice’s Adventures
in Wonderland Chapter I
One fine afternoon, Alice and her sister,
Ann were sitting on the riverbank. Ann
was reading her book gleefully whereas Alice was bored. She was not interested in Ann’s book at all
as it had no pictures nor conversations.
She felt so bored that she was about to
doze off at any time. Suddenly, a white
rabbit was passing close to her. He was
wearing a coat. Alice was deeply
astonished when it stopped and took out his waist pocket watch. Then he muttered, “Oh dear! Oh dear!
I shall be late.”
Out of curiosity, Alice followed the White
Rabbit to enter a rabbit-hole under the hedge.
Without a second thought, she also jumped into the deep tunnel. It was a really deep well. All the way, Alice had nonsense thoughts and
nonsense talks. Alice guessed she was at
least 35 miles or so to reach the ground.
Luckily, she fell upon a pile of hays.
There in front, the White Rabbit was still
in sight again in the long dark passage.
She quickly ran to follow him.
She was led to a dim, low, big hall where all the doors were locked.. Alice was deeply curious and she just wanted
to explore there. She wondered what she
could see behind each door
Suddenly, she came upon a three-legged
table with a tiny golden key on it. She
just took the key to try each door. To
her disappointment , the key did not fit the doors. Just then, she noticed a low curtain. To her surprise, she saw a door about 15
inches in height behind the curtain.
She opened it and saw a passage leading to
a beautiful garden. It was a
disappointment that it was impossible for her to pass through. So, she went back to the table to see what
else she could find.
There, to her amazement, she saw a bottle
of juice with a paper label, “Drink me!”.
Of course, Alice was cautious to make sure that it was not poisonous
before she drank it. When she thought it
was safe to drink the juice, she drank it gleefully. To her bewilderment, she had shrunk into a
small size of about 15 inches in height.
She
was happy because she could enter that tiny door without any problem. But when she found that the key was on the
table too high for her to reach it. She
was disappointed. Just then, she saw a
box under the three-legged table. She
opened it and saw a piece of cake with the label, “Eat me!”
Certainly, Alice was careful to make sure
that it was not poisonous. The she ate
the cake and she had grown to a height of 9 feet. Her head even hit the ceiling. At this instant, Alice felt upset and sad for
not being able to enter that small door to explore the beautiful garden
inside. In
desperation and sadness,
she wept and wept and wept without knowing that her tears could create a pool
of water.
